Purchased from Craig and Vicki Emerton in 1995. She had a colt foal at foot by Spin Off. The year before we bought Darwin Fancy Spin as a weaner. We bred her to Lethal Lena* twice ( Dee Bar Isa Blue & Dee Bar Little Bae), Loots Image* ( Dee Bar Blue The Loot), Docs Argyle (Dee Bar Diamond Blue). After having six foals we thought we would sell her. She has had a few owners since then and many more foals. She was a major part of our breeding program.

Darwin Fancy Spin

Was laid to rest in July 2019.

Fancy was a great Broodmare. She has carried a foal each year for 15 years. She competed in Western Performance in her early day. Futurity Winner in Western pleasure and reining was her forte. Had not started her in cutting due to unavailability of facilities. A lovely trainable mare that she put into her foals:

Docs Rumba

Sire: Doc’s Spinifex (IMP) Dam: Susie Doc

Purchased April 2018, laid to rest March 2021.

In April 2017, Link and I drove 12 hours south to pick up 2 Spinifex brood mares. Both were compromised with feet issues. We were prepared to trim or put some sort of shoe on but when we got there their feet were like rock and Link decided just to get them home and work on them. Once they were on the trailer it was no getting off until we got home some 12 hours later. One mare laid down for 2 weeks, unable to stand for only 5 minutes at a time. The other mare was not too bad but unsound with a club foot. We did some x-rays and saw she was rotated badly. She had her tendon cut and so mechanically she was ok. But as it happens it was to little too late. We lost the battle with her and had her humanely put to rest.
The mare we thought we were going to lose had come through and for the first time was running (and I mean running!) with other mares in the paddock. IN FOAL. It has not been an easy road but some things are just worth that extra mile.

She foaled a colt by Sorta Smooth, and went back in foal to Catty Hawk while raising the colt.

Rumba foaled a filly the following year 4 weeks early. She was tiny and has the will to live like her mum.

Triple Spin

Sire: Doc’s Spinifex (IMP) Dam: Bon Olena

This was one of the all time great cutting mares. Has NCHA LTE over $44,000 and 98.5 AQHA points ROM at cutting and superior cutting horse certificate. Her progeny is already competing. She had an ET filly by Sophisticated Cat for the 2013 futurities.
