As a Farrier

Link has been shoeing horses for 40 years. In the early 1990’s he did his apprenticeship with Valley Farrier’s Billy Neville. After completing his trade he started his own business. Link took time out to extend his knowledge attending the laminitis symposium in Lexington Kentucky and AFA convention for many years.
Link was heavily involved in farrier competitions. After winning the Australian Championships it took him to Calgary Stampede in 1996 to compete at the world farrier championships.
Link had worked along side Dr Terry Hicks of the Muswellbrook Veterinary Hospital on many cases dealing with lameness issues. It came apparent that they were a great team. In 1996, together they built the Hunter Valley Podiatry and Lameness Centre.
Link’s passion and knowledge for the care of lameness is second to none. His dedication to continue to learn will always benefit his clients. Link has a desire to educate others and pass on his experiences.
Once out on his own the majority of shoeing was for cutters.
Many may know Link as the farrier who worked tirelessly at the futurities making final adjustments to his clients’ horses and for anyone else who might need his expertise. The majority of the shoeing business was cutting horses. Working for trainers such as Sean Flynn, Roger Wagner, John Mitchell and Todd Graham just to name a few. While Link was on the road shoeing, Chris was working at Craig & Vicki Emerton’s cutting establishment. That is where they saw Lethal Lena*. He is special horse to Link and Chris- having hands on experience with him.
Link was asked to work on Doc’s Spinifex* for his lameness problem. Every 6 weeks Link and Dr Terry Hicks would go to Garrison Stud at Swan Hill Victoria to attend to Spini. That partnership went on for nearly 6 years.
