That was her last show as she was in foal to Doc Argyle. A great finish to her cutting career. This great mare was hauled up and down the east coast with a lot of success. Will always remain at Dee Bar.

Dee Bar Royal Flush

“Sweetie” as she was fondly known and was a familiar site at the cutting shows. Turning back and herd holding for the best of the best. She had a wonderful temperament that I know she would have passed onto her foal. Sean Flynn’s daughter Madison (4 years old) rode her for 5 days while they here and Sean was doing the school. It was a great sight to see this 15.2hh mare doing her thing with little Madison. Sadly Sweetie was laid to rest in 2016 to due to complications foaling. She is missed very much.

Link purchased registered thoroughbred Little Moonshine in the late 1970s. His family had sprint bred quarter horses, which were AJC registered, and Little Moonshine was bred to Uncle Bernard, which gave Miss Dee Bar Jo in the early 1980s.

This mare, affectionately called Dee Dee, gave many years of family fun. In her later years, she contributed to the Riding for the Disabled program.

Dee Dee had a few foals, but her last foal was an embryo flush in 2000 by Peppy’s Ace of Hearts by Peppy Doc Bar (imp), one of the first cutting horses into Australia.

The flush was negative however, fortunately, she was pregnant and had the foal naturally. This was her last foal as she had a grade 3 uterus, which meant she had a slim chance to hold a pregnancy. So this filly was a close to a miracle. The foal was a filly called Dee Bar Royal Flush. She was never shown but spent 10 years in the pen as a turn-back horse. Her stable name was Sweetie and such a sweetie she was.

Sweetie was bred to Miel Lethal Style (aka Rusty) in 2015, which resulted in a futurity filly, Dee Bar Royal Miss (aka Missy).

Sweetie was bred back to Rusty but, tragically, she died during foaling. And then, on 15 February 2019, Rusty also sadly died.

Link trained Missy and it was often thought she wasn’t going to make it. Her two-year-old x-rays found substantial issues. She was bought on slowly and given every chance to get ‘it’. Dr Jo Holt of the Scone Equine Group was very supportive of the preventative treatment plan. About six months from the futurity, she found her feet; she’d always been cowy, but struggled with being athletic.

The day she did it all by herself Link nearly fell off! Not one to give up, he could feel her determination to block the cow, but she had struggled physically.

It was never imagined that a filly out of a turn-back mare by a horse that had limited exposure would make the big pen and get a score.

Chris and Link both rode Missy in competition and Chris was lucky enough to final on her in the Comet Non Pro Futurity in August 2019, coming from bottom of the ladder to make fifth in the line-up.
